Among their innovations, PRE-SAFE® can detect conditions that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent, then adjust the front seat belts, front passenger seat, windows and sunroof, to better prepare the occupants in the moments before a collision.
The world's first 7-speed automatic transmission combines efficient cruising with crisp response that continually adapts to your driving style. An elegantly simple electronic selector and standard paddle shifters allow full control of gear changes without taking a hand from the steering wheel.
E-Class suspensions master both comfort and confidence. E350 models feature AGILITY CONTROL, an innovation that adjusts the damping in response to the road surface. Semi-active AIRMATIC suspension with Adaptive Damping is standard on E550 Sedan models. Both systems are tuned for supple control on Luxury models, while Sport models emphasize crisper handling.
Lift off the accelerator quickly and Predictive Brake Priming sets the pads closer to the discs, for more immediate response when you hit the brakes. In the rain, Automatic Brake Drying gently applies the brakes periodically, to sweep away water build-up. During uphill starts, Hill-Start Assist helps prevent unwanted rollback. And a HOLD feature can make stop-and-go traffic a little easier.

With a 45:55 front/rear torque split, the lightweight and compact 4MATIC system enhances dry-road handling, too.
Another exclusive Mercedes-Benz innovation, ATTENTION ASSIST can help alert the driver it detects signs of drowsiness on longer trips. The system continuously monitors over 70 different parameters of driving behavior in the first minutes of a drive to establish a pattern, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings.
DISTRONIC PLUS active cruise control adapts to traffic, automatically slowing or stopping until your path clears. Its radar-based PRE-SAFE Brake can sense an impending collision and apply full braking. Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist can help alert you to unseen vehicles in the next lane, help warn you of drifting out of lane, and even help steer the car back if you disregard the alerts.
With nine air bags offering 11-way protection, no other car in its class offers air bags in more locations. Pelvic air bags complement side-impact air bags for each front seat. A driver´s knee air bag augments dual-stage front air bags. Side curtain air bags are provided at the outboard seating positions in both the first and second rows.
